Mary Shelley foi uma romancista inglesa, nascida em 1797 e falecida em 1851, filha do filósofo William Godwin e da feminista Mary Wollstonecraft. Casou em 1816 com o poeta Percy Bysshe Shelley. Ficou conhecida como a autora de Frankenstein, or, The Modern Prometheus (Frankenstein ou o Prometeu Moderno , 1818). Escreveu ainda vários textos menores e, após a morte do marido, encarregou-se da publicação da sua obra.
