
Junot Díaz nasceu em Santo Domingo, na República Dominicana.
Publicou textos de ficção em publicações diversas, como The New Yorker, African Voices, Best American Short Stories (1996, 1997, 1999, 2000), Pushcart Prize XXII e The O’Henry Prize Stories 2009.
Além do Pulitzer, o autor foi ainda contemplado com os prémios Eugene McDermott Award, Lila Acheson Wallace Readers Digest Award, 2002 Pen/Malamud Award e Rome Prize from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. Recebeu também as bolsas John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation, 2003 US-Japan Creative Artist Fellowship, pelo National Endowment for the Arts e a bolsa oferecida pelo Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study, na Universidade de Harvard.
É, actualmente, editor de ficção para o Boston Review e lecciona no Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
