David Mitchell nasceu em 1969 e cresceu no Sudoeste de Inglaterra. O seu primeiro romance, Ghostwritten, publicado em 1999, e o segundo, number9dream, de 2001, receberam diversas distinções. Atlas das Nuvens, publicado em 2004, foi nomeado para o Man Booker Prize e posteriormente adaptado ao cinema. David Mitchell vive atualmente na Irlanda.
