Mount TBR – March Checkpoint

Mount TBR 2014

March is almost at an end, and since I won’t be finishing another book for this challenge until the end of the month, it’s time for a checkpoint.

1. Until now, I’ve read 26 books from my TBR pile, which means I’ve climbed 72% of Mt. Vancouver in 25% of the year. This is going so well that I will change my goal to Mt. Kilimanjaro: I propose to read 60 books from my TBR pile when 2014 comes to an end.

2. Challenges:

A – My favorite book cover so far:

B – My favorite character so far: This has to be Kitty Fane from “The Painted Veil”. As I said in my review, although she is a futile and self-centered character, she sort of represents all the faults and virtues of the human being. A perfect imperfect character.

C  – I was really surprised by “The Lathe of Heaven”, by Ursula K. Le Guin. I bought it almost by chance, with a discount price, and I didn’t expect to like it as much as I did. Great writing, thought-provoking themes and a very interesting plot make this book one of the best I’ve read this year.

D – I’m not sure between “The Panted Veil”, by Somerset Maugham or “Capitães da Areia”, by Jorge Amado, because both were bought circa 2006-2007. Nonetheless, they were great reads and well worth the wait, making me wonder what took me so long.
