Anthony Burgess
John Burgess Wilson (nome verdadeiro de Anthony Burgess) (25/02/1917 – 22/11/1993) foi um escritor, poeta, dramaturgo, compositor, linguista, tradutor e crítico inglês.
A sua sátira distópica “A Laranja Mecânica” é de longe o seu livro mais famoso e foi adaptada a um também famoso, apesar de controverso, filme de Stanley Kubrick em 1971. Contudo, mais tarde, o autor considerou-o um dos seus trabalhos menores. Burgess escreveu vários outros livros, incluindo os 4 livros da série Enderby e o seu magnum opus de 1980, Earthly Powers. Foi também um crítico proeminente, tendo escrito estudos consagrados sobre escritores clássicos, como William Shakespeare, James Joyce, D.H. Lawrence e Ernest Hemingway.
À parte da literatura, Anthony Burgess foi um talentoso músico e linguista. Fez mais de 250 composições musicais, incluindo a sua primeira sinfonia quando tinha cerca de 18 anos, escreveu várias libretti, e traduziu, entre outros, Cyrano de Bergerac, Oedipus, o Rei e Carmen.
